In-Memory Data Management
After 50 years of successful development, business IT has reached a new turning point. Here, the authors demonstrate for the first time how in-memory computing will transform business processes in the future. Until now, corporate data has been distributed across different databases for performance reasons: Analytical data resides in data warehouses and is regularly synchronized using transactional systems. This fragmentation makes flexible, real-time reporting of current data impossible. But thanks to powerful multi-core CPUs, large main memory, cloud computing, and ever-improving mobile devices, companies are increasingly leaving this restrictive model behind. The authors present technologies that enable analytical and transactional processing in real time, thus paving new ways for business.
